We actually had a warm and restful night in the tent!  The morning sun was shining and we hung out by our campfire for a bit to drink our coffee.  We considered taking a boat over to Madeline Island, but since there was rain in the forecast (of course) we decided to save that for another trip.  We walked around Bayfield and ate our breakfast at the Eggtoss Cafe.

This one is for my brother, (Andy)!  Hi Andy!

After breakfast, we thought we would try to do some hiking along the National Park lake shore, but right when we got there, the forecasted rains began to fall, and then pour.  Again, we will just have to do the whole Apostle Island trip some other time.  As we traveled towards Superior, the rain fell harder and the fog came back.  My dad is from Superior, so we visited the area a lot when I was growing up and it just feels like Superior was and still is always cloudy or rainy or foggy.  It’s kind of a run down little town now, but I have so many memories there that I still like to go back.

So, to end our trip, yes this was our final day, we stopped for a drink at the famous Anchor Bar.  We had planned on camping one more night in Minnesota on our way home, but we’d done enough tent shivering for one week and we decided that we wanted to hug our kitties and sleep in our own bed.  Since I started our trip with a Bloody Mary in Grand Marais, I ended it with a Bloody Mary in Superior!

Lake Superior holds so many stories, some are beautiful and some are mysterious or tragic.  It is like a giant magnet that draws you in, willing or not.  Whether you are standing on the shore, dipping your toe in the majestic waters, or you are in a boat, cradled by her icy grip, the Lake will take a hold of you and snare a piece of your heart for herself.

Thanks Tiffany for documenting your trip and sharing it day by day, what a fun idea! It was great to read your stories and gaze at your photos. They make me miss Lake Superior and I think I may have to do the Circle Tour sometime!
